Summary

The commune of Saint-Etienne-de-Gourgas brings together two types of landscapes. To the north extends the Larzac plateau, to the south, a landscape carved by waterways that gives the locality a hilly appearance. At the junction of the two landscape areas are the foothills of the causse, adorned by the state forest of Notre-Dame-de-Parlatges. The commune is composed of several hamlets: La Canourgue and La Roque on the Larzac plateau, Gourgas, Saint-Etienne-le-haut and le bas, the hamlet of Aubaygues on the foothills. In the heart of the commune, one notices the must-see cirque of Bout-du-Monde, a landscape that marks the rupture between the causse and the valley.
