Summary

Cited since the year 804 in historical sources, Lavalette (La Valeta in Occitan) is an ancient living place offering many natural riches and a built heritage made of ancient stones. In the municipality, a castle was built in 1585 on the traces of a fortified edifice dating from the 12th century. Occupied by lords who paid homage to the bishop of Lodève, the central power of the territory throughout the Middle Ages and the modern era, it is still standing today and opens onto a landscaped park of more than two hectares.
