Get ready for five days of breathtaking scenery! A little-known Larzac awaits you, rich in geology, natural lookouts and agro-pastoral tradition.
ATTENTION (information April 2025):
Following a trail collapse on the GR® 7, the route is impassable through the Vis gorges between St-Maurice-Navacelles and the hamlet of Navacelles. It is still possible to link up via the plateau, following the signs for the PR Navacelles - Causses et Gorges de la Vis via the Baume Auriol lookout and the sentier du Facteur.
This hike is the synthesis of the 3 loops of the GR® de Pays Tour du Larzac Méridional, which crosses the Larzac plateau between Hérault and Aveyron. a 5-day hike on a UNESCO World Heritage site (Causses and Cévennes, cultural landscape of Mediterranean Agropastoralism), and within the boundaries of the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park.
The route takes hikers through remarkable natural sites, including the Cirque de Navacelles, a Grand Site de France, where the river Vis has carved a spectacular meander.
The Larzac trail takes in the geological formations of the Terres d'Hérault Geopark (gorges and cliffs, sotchs and limestone causses): at the summit of Mont Saint-Baudille, the orientation table offers an exceptional panorama of the Geopark and the whole of the Hérault.
Picturesque villages dot the itinerary, providing opportunities to stop and explore: Le Caylar, Soubès, Navacelles, Vissec, Sorbs, Saint-Pierre-de-la Fage, la Vacquerie... On the final leg, a visit to the fortified Templar town of La Couvertoirade is a must.
