A charming road, surrounded by vast lawns delimited by low walls or "murailhu", gradually takes you away from the urbanization. The large steppe-like expanses are adorned in the spring with the feathers of angel hair, a grass typical of the southern causses.
La Vernède is an isolated, quiet place, a stop away from urbanization, with a very special atmosphere. In the middle of steppe-like expanses, because they are grassy and dotted with boxwood and trees, a partly ruined farmhouse stands out between earth and sky. A break at La Vernède is an opportunity to discover 17th century ruins with traditional architecture, set in an environment devoted to agropastoralism, in balance with the typical flora and fauna of the Causses. The grazing and the maintenance of these "courses" by men for 5000 years have allowed the opening up of the environment by favouring grass to the detriment of bushes and trees and the establishment of a biodiversity typical of open environments.
