Usclas-du-Bosc

Located in the heart of a very wooded region where deforestation allowed the expansion of cultivable areas, the municipality very early occupied a clearing gained from the forest massif. The village's economy relied for a long time on agriculture and stone cutting, a practice recognized in the area, providing it with a quality raw material used for most of the country's constructions. The uniqueness of this village is found in its cemetery where more than fifty discoid steles were located, monoliths in the shape of a disk raised at the foot of a grave allowing the identification of the deceased. These monuments are now grouped at the Lodève Museum.
