Stone tells the story of this Causse village, with its farms, wells, ponds, castle, ovens and seven crosses. Exceptional geology and historic agropastoralism will help you discover the secrets of the Larzac plateau.
Leaving Ville Vieille, one of the scattered hamlets that make up Sorbs, the path progresses among wide depressions hollowed out in the limestone (sink-holes), to descend, on the northern flank of the Devèze, to the bottom of the Virenque gorge. Following the dry bed of this curious river, where pebble deposits alternate with large flat rocks and chaotic boulders, you come to the peaceful goat farm of Camp d’Alton, at the confluence with the Sorbs stream. Via this new dry track, the route goes through open meanders, over a ribbon of narrow meadows and below the ancient terraces of tenement vineyards. The climb back up towards the plateau, through woods and garrigue, ends close to the château of the Lords of La Treilhe (16th century) and a cross (18th century).
