%C0 Through the testimonies of some fifteen women aged 11 %E0 to 95, this documentary by Josette Hart and Jean Milleville explores the choices, challenges, and joys of life in the Grands Causses. A sensitive look at vibrant rural life, set against a backdrop of exceptional landscapes and the stories of these women.
A documentary film directed by Josette Hart and Jean Milleville (running time: 52 minutes). This is southern Aveyron, the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park, with its arid limestone plateaus sweptby the winds, its fertile valleys, its chalky soil, its narrow, winding roads, and the A75 highway cutting the region in two. The light, which accentuates the ochre hues of the stones and the grays of the slate roofs, is striking in its contrasts. This fabulous playground is mainly frequented by tourists who love extreme sports and lovers of untamed beauty. But outside of the summer season, why stay there—why and how do people live there? About fifteen women aged 11 to 95 share their stories with us. Some were born here; others moved here. What have their life journeys been like? What kinds of lives can be reinvented in such a remote rural setting? Living here—why, how, and what meaning can be found in this life, whether chosen or imposed? What impact does such an environment have on their lives? These women’s poignant testimonies dispel all preconceptions. An event co-organized by the Entente Interdépartementale Causses et Cévennes and the Grand Site de France du Cirque de Navacelles joint association, to showcase and help people understand the landscapes and agropastoral culture.
