Presentation

%C0 Who owns a house when the people who lived there were %E9t%E9 forced to leave it? %C0 Those who fled to save their lives, or %E0 those who found refuge there? What if the real question were rather: Who does this house belong to?

In *The House*, author Aliye Ummanel tells the story of several families who lived in the same place, sometimes separated by events and conflicts. Some had to leave in a hurry, leaving behind a part of their history. Through these intertwined stories, the play explores the themes of exile, borders, memory, and belonging.

Inspired by the history of Cyprus, this contemporary theater piece resonates with individual stories against the backdrop of today’s upheavals. It invites us to move beyond misunderstandings and to see those forced to leave by conflict in a new light.

This residency showcase offers an opportunity to discover the creative work developed around Aliye Ummanel’s text, translated from Cypriot Turkish by Selin Altiparmak and directed by Dominique Dolmieu.

Residency showcase presented by the Théâtre dans la Forêt.
