Cathedral
The Cathedral of Saint-Fulcran in Lodève is a typical southern Gothic building.
Two religious buildings formerly stood on the site of the current cathedral. The first was built in around the 5th and 6th centuries (underground crypt) and the second was built by Bishop Fulcran and consecrated to Saint Génies in 975. The current Saint-Fulcran Cathedral was built in the Languedoc Gothic style in the 12th and 14th centuries. Initially dedicated to Saint Génies, it has been associated with the name Saint-Fulcran since the 15th century. The cloister was built in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries.
The current cathedral has a remarkable polygonal apse. The rose window and stained-glass windows by Mauvernay, the great organ, the Saint-Fulcran Chapel and the Saint-Michel Chapel also merit attention.
