Cirque de Mourèze

Not far from the lake Salagou, the Cirque de Mourèze has almost 900 acres of gigantic, picturesque, dolomite cliffs in strange shapes.  These calcareous cliffs which formed about 160 million years ago, in an era when the region was covered by a warm sea, have eroded over the thousands of years gone by following a succession of different climates.

La couvertoirade

Nestling at the heart of the Causse du Larzac, in wild, unspoilt countryside, the medieval village of La Couvertoirade has retained a truly remarkable group of buildings from its Templar and Hospitaller past. The towers and wall-walk of the ramparts, fortified doors, Templar castle from the late 12th century, fortress church from the 14th century, paved side streets dotted with typical stone houses, and old residences like the Scipione House and the Grailhe Mansion make La Couvertoirade a simply unmissable listed site !
