The Musée de Lodève is currently undergoing extensive renovation and extension work. During this period the museum is continuing its activities outdoors, with lectures and workshops in winter and major exhibitions in the Cellier des Evêques every summer. The summer 2016 exhibition, “Alexandre Hollan, questions aux arbres d’ici” (questions to the trees), was held from 18 June to 6 November.
For more than 30 years, Alexandre Hollan has been observing and painting the trees of Hérault again and again, translating his physical, spiritual and emotional experiences into paintings. He also writes about the meaning of his quest almost every day. Through the image of the tree, he questions how we look at things: “don’t look too hard if you want to see what is most important... “. Charcoal, watercolours, large-scale paintings, sketchbooks, audio recordings... there are 80 works to help us resonate with the artist’s vision.
