LES ROCHERS DU CAYLAR

LES ROCHERS DU CAYLAR

The Roc Castel, 70 meter high, presents the qualities of a site naturally protected by its rocks. These where incorporated in the construction of a primitive conurbation, used as plantings or walls for houses, as bearing for fortified surrounding walls. The castle chapel, of the same age and dedicated to Virgin Mary, will be partly rebuilt in the 18th century. The medieval village developped on the south-west slope of the Roc Castel, at which foot is situated the White Portal and its tower (14th – 15th centuries), and a belfry (15th – 16th centuries). On the spot : historical tour with viewpoints and viewpoint indicators...
