Presentation

Unicorns, dragon's teeth, petrified snakes? all over the world, fossils have been the subject of extremely diverse interpretations and beliefs. The legends and superstitions they give rise to are often laughable today, but they nonetheless bear witness to the interest these fossils have aroused over the centuries, long before the birth of paleontological science at the end of the 18th century. Not only are fossils astonishing, they can also be used to heal, bring luck or misfortune, accompany the dead and be the object of rituals. Fossil folklore is a vast and fascinating field.
by Eric Buffetaut, CNRS paleontologist
The meeting will be followed by a book signing and a convivial drink.
