Set in the late 1930s, during the Front Populaire, LA BELLE EQUIPE tells the story of five Parisian workers - Jean, Charles, Raymond, Jacques and Mario, a Spanish refugee threatened with deportation - who suffer from unemployment and other hardships. Together, they buy a national lottery ticket and win the jackpot: 100,000 francs! One of them, Jean, suggests that the others buy a run-down house on the banks of the Marne and turn it into a guinguette, which they will use as a cooperative business, instead of enjoying their winnings separately and for a short time. All are in favor of this plan, which will enable them to forge a brighter future for themselves.

It is an act of militant transmission: a reminder that social conquests are the fruit of collective struggles, that commitment is never neutral, and that working-class history deserves to be told with dignity.
